Abby :-) Guardian :-( Abby :-) Guardian :-(

The Post gave The Guardian one of the most devastating reviews I've read of any film in a long time. Really too bad. I want to see it to hear Abby and support the project for her success, but can I really sit through 3 hours of Ashton Kutcher?! How good a friend am I? Maybe I can hire a teenager to go?

john stewart take two.

The Daily Show is frankly hilarious. No matter how you look at it.

This is so worth the watch. John Stewart on I-Report.
If you can't get the link to work, head to CNN.com and click on the link underneath the big picture on the front page, next the the I-Report symbol.

Is this Schnecksville or is this Kansas?

Last night while I was reading our blog, the power was knocked out momentarily by a huge storm. Then there were all this warnings across the TV screen for people in our area to go in their basements because a tornado was coming. Although no twister actually arrived, it was unnerving.

Do We Believe Him?

I'm tending to take him at his word now. Mostly because he's not on suicide watch, and I don't think even the money-grubbing NFL would play him if he were in real emotional distress. Doesn't mean he's not unstable, but I still wonder how all that bipolar rumoring got started.

Polka Dot Fraud Uncovered!

I think if I were going to lie about writing a song, I'd pick something like Stormy Weather, or I Did It My Way, or Mack the Knife maybe . . .

Keb Mo

This is what I have been listening to recently, almost non-stop. Traditional blues, Leadbelly style. Highly recommended if you like that kind of music.

Saturday, October 14th

Drew and I were talking about the day after Meeg's & Trav's wedding and the fact that all the Herbert siblings will be in the same place at the same time. Drew & E & I have to go back to Schnecksville to pick up our dog, so we were wondering if everyone could congregate at our house for Saturday afternoon. We could order out some food or something to keep it simple, but it would be great to spend some nice relaxing time together. Let us know what you think.

Jimmy and Christina ....

Well? Are the wedding bells ringing? When? Where? Who was there? Details ... and a picture too if you have one :-)

Happy birthday bros

I hope you both have great birthdays.

What Century Are We In?

Am I missing something or are we really, seriously, in the middle of a national debate on whether or not it's okay to torture other human beings? And is the leader of the free world, quote unquote, really seriously saying, yes, no problem here? It's humiliating to Americans that this conversation is even taking place. No wonder they hate us.

Rendezvous in DC

Megan and I had a lovely lunch at the Dubliner, one of Washington's best Irish pubs. That's us under the far umbrella, eating potato soup and corned beef. What an unexpected treat.

Baseball

We (Christi, me, her Mom & Dad, Anthony & Christi's Brother Michael and his girlfriend) are going to the Dodgers game tonight. It's a b-day present for Christi's Dad. Should be interesting.

help a friend out...

Speaking of weddings...

A really nice guy that interns here at my office is taking in a competition to win a wedding. Him and his fiancee have made it to the final round. So... if you get a second, click HERE, click on the big picture at the top which lists the competition and says "vote for your favorite couple", and vote for Joshua and Chauntee. I think it would be great to see them win, Joshua is the sweetest guy, and from what I hear, Chauntee is amazing too.

Thanks! :-)

RSVP

To my dear darling brothers,
I know that the wedding invitation gave a certain date to respond as to your (and guests) attendance at the wedding, but right now I am the overbearing, over-protective, controlling mother and I NEED TO KNOW. Send in those rsvps, please....it will do wonders for my stress level right about now :-)
Love you all ...;-)

Tuesday

Turns out I will be heading to DC on Tuesday (the 19th) with my boss, for our first DC event to be held in the Phoenix Park Hotel. I'm not sure where exactly that is, but I'm excited to be making the trip because it's always nice to get out of the office for a day, and nice to get to DC.

Wray, I'm not positive, but I think I could get away for lunch... and I know I could get away for coffee at some point, if you are anywhere close enough to meet. Let me know. Even if you have to play it by ear on the day of... just call my cell (610-751-2492).

six years

I'm always posting random things... but I think this is really neat. Six and a half years, one guy, one picture a day.

Pigskin superstitions

I don't know if this is true or not, but I have heard that if you bet against your home team on opening day, your team will never repeat as Superbowl champs. And if you bet against your home team and lose the bet, your quarterback will be cursed for the entire season. Has anyone else heard this?

The Guardian

The movie The Guardian premiered last night. This is the one with Kevin Costner about Coast Guard rescues. I have no idea if the movie is any good at all, but it's significant because it features two songs by Abby Ahmad. One, "Tri-Me," is also on the soundtrack, which is a mongo coup for an unknown artist. So congrats to Abby!

Apple Picking Time

This time of year always reminds me of when Michael and Anne lived on the orchard out Route 145. Anne actually picked apples a couple seasons, and Michael and I had a darkroom set up in a spare room. Michael was apprenticed to a potter, Renzo Fagioli, who taught at Moravian, and Anne and I worked at the bookstore (along with Maggie, Ted, Vanessa and just about everyone else we knew). We ate Stamen apples. We shot Tri-X film. It was a simple time. I didn't see the storm gathering.

Only 108 Days 'Til Christmas

I usually take the Fabulous Herbert Boys portrait in the summer to mail out at the holidays, but with the wonder of the Internet, why wait? Happy holidays, all!

cingular bites...

Just ordered a new phone which I am very excited about.

Not so excited about the fact that they accidentally turned off my old phone before the new one got here. Grr...

Getting my new phone today though, so should be all fixed by tomorrow, but very annoying. People can't even leave messages because my cingular account is not activated until the phone is, and my old AT&T account is now gone. So I currently don't have a voicemail.

If you want to reach me today, call the office phone (I will be here until about 8:30), 215-732-3774. Dial to the operator (0).

The Missing Person Herbert Boys Quartet

This is also from our vacation in Duck. Sadly, Bren couldn't make it. The surf was really picking up at this point. They closed the beach for swimming on our last day.

Wray & Susie in Duck

For those of you who have not yet met Susie, this is Susie. And that's me with her, in Duck, NC, on vacation. Susie lives in Bethlehem, PA, and we met through Maggie and Drew. More details to come.

Mud Run

Christi and I are preparing to enter the Mud Run. She completed it this past year and we are going together this next year. The mud run takes place at camp pendelton - it's the Marine Corps' 5 mile uphill obsticle course. Quite a challenge. I can't wait.

weekend

Hope everyone had a nice holiday weekend. Ours was great. Saturday night we went to our nextdoor neighbors (Scott & Selvina) for a cookout and margaritas - much fun. then yesterday, we had a great meal with Christi's parents and hung out there for a while. Anthony and I made a bow and arrow, which functioned disturbingly well. Then we attempted an early bedtime in preparation for the first day of first grade - we came close to early. All in all, a good weekend.

Bethlehem Redux

It was very interesting, and a bit surreal, to spend four days in Bethlehem. Although I have been to the Lehigh Valley to visit the Goss family every year, it has been many, many years since I've spent any time in Bethlehem, and it was especially interesting to think that I am reconnecting with this city and will be spending time there regularly. Everywhere I looked there were reminders of a past life: where I was born for starters, where I went to junior high school, where mom and dad were married, where Grandad lived on Market Street (though I can't pick the house with confidence), where I went to college, where Nancy and I lived as grad students. A lot has obviously changed in 30 years, but a lot has not. There was the Penny Bridge, the Nitsky Hill Cemetary where Susie and I walked, the Moravian Bookstore, the Hotel Bethlehem (where Megan Rees and I spent our first night together), the Rose Park where I walked home from Nitschman to the 16th Street house (which we drove by). I did go back to visit mom and dad a few times on High Street, but I have almost no recollection of those visits, and since they never left their house it was not like we ever explored Bethlehem those times (though we did walk by the house, which is just a couple blocks from Susie's). I am looking forward to making Bethlehem my home town once again.

Little Miss Sunshine

Go see this wonderful movie. Talk about Unhappy in Our Own Way! This is the most endearing dysfunctional family to come along in a long time. The whole cast is great, and the story is sweet and funny. Highly recommended.
