Ian and Wray complete 2-day 100-mile bike ride from DC to Purcellville, Virginia and back!*
*In response to popular demand, here are more details: We pedaled for five hours Friday, into 20mph winds and 40mph gusts. We made it 40 miles and stopped in Leesburg, pretty worn out psychologically from fighting all that wind, but otherwise feeling okay. Since we had just been eating astronaut food on the trail, we went to Red Hot & Blue and had an enormous meal of baby back ribs and sweet potatoes and corn muffins. We also has a big-boy breakfast on Saturday morning and hit the trail early. It was cold, so we pedaled pretty fast to Purcellville, the terminus, had something hot to drink, then pedaled pretty much straight through to home, about six hours, or 11 hours total over the two days. Not bad. Susie was waiting for us at #117 with a wonderful meal of comfort food, beef stew, bread, salad, and Krista joined us to celebrate the Herbert boys' triumph. We're hoping to make this the first annual Herbert October Century Ride.

Wow, what a trip! Sounds like a great experience.
What inspired you to make the trip?
Ian and I had never biked together before. We had been pedaling separately since spring, and had both done the 36-mile Mt. Vernon loop a couple times. I had originally wanted to do a century on my birthday, but fell behind schedule with training, so we decided to try this instead.
I'm very impressed! That is quite a goal to reach. It was especially great that you got to do it together.
Very impressive. Sounds like fun too.
Congratulations Wray and Ian! I am so impressed ... what a great experience that must have been. Bravo!
